hASLO ROOFTOP PLAYSCAPE
The rooftop playscape part of San Luis Obispo’s latest affordable housing proposal incorporates a diverse range of social spaces, play opportunities, and community gathering spaces for all ages. The landscape and architecture teams worked closely together in order to capture stunning views and maximize the potential of the outdoor spaces. The central playscape in particular is designed to be mindful of varying degrees of disabilities and child development stages that allows everyone the opportunity to play and lounge.
Infants and toddlers are encouraged to explore and express themselves through the use of interactive art walls. In addition they can find opportunities to contemplate and socialize in surrounding seating areas. Older children can engage in challenging climbing and running opportunities through the sloped elements of the central playscape and wrap around track. The sloped netting is accessible to a range of ages and skill levels, opening up the potential for adults and children alike to lounge and participate in play together.
