the darling hotel
The boutique 32-suite Darling Hotel celebrates rich local heritage by authentically amplifying the legacy of the historic Art Deco courthouse while providing an elegant new place to experience the heart of Visalia.
This modern redesign celebrates existing elements of the historic courthouse building. The facades were restored along with the seamlessly designed stair tower retrofitted to code. The original interior details were meticulously preserved to keep the Art Deco styles alive. Elements of the building were innovatively reused to retain the building’s singular character.
The Elderwood, the hotel’s rooftop restaurant, celebrates the existing building by showcasing the concrete negative of the Art Deco frieze on the primary façade. A generational story of family and community reverberates through all facets of the building, making The Darling a promise to continue that story for generations to come.
